Gavaskar blasts India's favouritism after Pujara, Pandey get benched again

The India team management were at the receiving end of an unusually vocal Sunil Gavaskar who questioned the logic of not giving bench players a game against Afghanistan.

India were knocked out of the Asia Cup race last night by Pakistan, hence the Afghanistan game is inconsequential. It may have been prudent to rest the first-choice players and give the bench—Cheteshwar Pujara and Ishwar Pandey—a workout.

Commentating on the game, the usually conservative Gavaskar said he was baffled by India’s choices.

“Very hard to understand, to be honest with you, it's baffling,” Gavaskar said. “Some of the players have been playing non-stop, they need a bit of a break before the World T20 starts, the second thing is if you are not going to give the reserve players a chance, then when are they going to play.” (Yahoo)
