Decision to bowl first was shocking: Aaqib Javed

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s former fast bowler Aaqib Javed, has said that Pakistan team should have batted first after winning the toss in the first One-day International (ODI) against South Africa.

Former bowling coach expressed his disappointment and said that he was shocked when the Pakistan captain invited the Proteas to bat first instead of taking advantage of their strong spin attack.

“On a flat track, Misbah-ul-Haq won the toss and decided to bowl first which was surprising as the Green Shirts are not considered to be very good when it comes to chasing targets,” he said.

He said Pakistan played with just two seamers, Umar Gul and Junaid Khan, which was another poor decision by the team management. He said that the pacers have a huge role to play in the South African conditions. (TN)
