India beats England by 7 wickets in Ranchi ODI

India thrashed England by 7 wickets in third one-day international of the five-match series at JSCA Stadium here on Saturday, bowling out the visiting team for 155 runs before Virat Kohli returned to the form with 77 runs unbeaten.

Celebration triggered off in the stadium and Indian dressing room as the skipper and the local boy M. S. Dhoni hit the winning runs by pulling Steven Finn to the square-leg boundary.

India first bundled out the visiting team for a worthless 155 in 42.2 overs and then chased down the target with 21.5 overs to spare to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets, while R Ashwin and Ishant Sharma bagged two wickets each to maintain the pressure on the England, who never recovered from the early jolts.

Only Joe Roots (39), opener Ian Bell (25) and Tim Bresnan (25) stayed a little longer on the pitch contributed significantly as England lost wickets at regular intervals.

Nearly 40,000 spectators at the newly built JSCA (Jharkhand State Cricket Association) Stadium cheered Kohli, who blasted two sixes and nine fours during his unbeaten knock of 77 runs.

The Indian team also lost opener Ajinkya Rahane (0) early but Gautam Gambhir (33) and Kohli managed the innings to some extent by putting on 67 runs for the second wicket.

After that Kohli and Yuvraj Singh (30) accelerated the pace with a spell of big shots. Yuvraj was, however, out with 12 runs left.

Earlier in the morning, Dhoni won the toss and choose to bowl.

Now the both team will lock horns in Mumbai for the fourth ODI on January 23. (ANI)
