Pak head coach hiring process ‘halted for time being’: Intikhab Alam

The hiring process of a new coach for the Pakistan cricket team has been delayed, Intikhab Alam, head of the coach-finding committee appointed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has said.

“We were hoping to name the new coach in this month but the process has been halted for the time being,” the Daily Times quoted Intikhab, as saying.

“We are yet to start interviewing persons who applied for the job,” he confirmed.

The delay in hiring a new coach is due to the change of guard at the top level of the board.

Former PCB chief Ijaz Butt had given the ‘free-hand’ to the committee to shortlist the candidates, and the final appointment, following the due interview process, was considered to be a mere formality, the report said.

According to PCB sources, there are two local candidates out of the five prospective coaches shortlisted by the committee.

Former assistant coach Aaqib Javed and former chief selector Abdul Qadir are in contention, while the three foreigners shortlisted are Dav Whatmore, Dean Jones (both Australia) and Dermot Reev (England), the report added. (ANI)
